LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announce the opening of a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Phillips County for those affected by the storms that occurred between May 2-12. The center is at the following location:

Barton High School
9546 Hwy 85 South
Lexa, AR 72355
Open June 17 through June 28, 2008
Hours:  9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday

Disaster victims are encouraged to register for assistance before they visit by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing- or speech-impaired. The lines are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily. Those affected by the storms can also register online at www.fema.gov or visit a DRC to meet with recovery specialists.

Registering before visiting a DRC will shorten time spent at the center. Visiting a DRC is not required to be considered for assistance.

Representatives of state, federal, voluntary agencies and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be available to answer questions and provide recovery information. Written materials about various assistance programs are also available to individuals and business owners. No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed at DRCs. Centers are for the dissemination of information to assist in disaster recovery.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terrorism.
