Seattle, WA -- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Fire Program Specialist Rob Carnahan will present the Klickitat County Fire District #14 with a $13,982 grant for fire operations and firefighter safety equipment on Monday, June 30 at their station at 704 Centerville Highway in Lyle, Washington.

The FEMA Assistance to Fire Fighters Grant Program is designed to increase the effectiveness of fire fighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, new fire apparatus, EMS programs, and Fire Prevention and Safety Programs.

"Our nation's firefighters are the first responders for almost every emergency," said FEMA Regional Director John Pennington. "Through this award program, President Bush and Congress have provided FEMA the opportunity to significantly enhance the Fire and EMS services they provide to Americans."

"We plan to purchase personal protective equipment-ten sets of structural firefighting gear and 15 sets of Nomex brush gear," said Chief Doug Hutchison. "The grant funds will enable us to outfit all our personnel with NFPA compliant clothing."
