Baton Rouge, LA -- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness (LOEP) officials continue response and recovery efforts for those affected by Tropical Storm Isidore and Hurricane Lili.
As of noon Thursday, Oct.17, efforts include:
- To meet serious rental crunch in some areas, particularly in Acadia, Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes in locales such as Houma and Raynes, state and federal officials are working with the private sector and local leaders to provide travel trailers as an alternative housing option. FEMA officials emphasize that trailers are considered an emergency measure until better housing is available. Travel trailers will not be suitable for everyone and will be provided on an individual basis.
- Registrations for assistance through FEMA's toll-free registration line for Tropical Storm Isidore and Hurricane Lili total 88,430 and include the following parishes:
- Acadia, 2,460;
- Ascension, 484;
- Assumption, 662;
- Avoyelles, 340;
- Beauregard, 8;
- Calcasieu, 46;
- Cameron, 10;
- Evangeline, 1,033;
- Iberia, 4,920;
- Iberville, 291;
- Jefferson, 8,907;
- Jefferson Davis, 394;
- Lafayette, 4,212;
- Lafourche 862;
- Livingston, 385;
- Orleans, 35,178;
- Plaquemines, 838;
- St.Bernard, 1,698;
- St. Charles, 1,246;
- St. James, 492;
- St. John The Baptist, 1,631;
- St. Landry, 2,232;
- St. Martin, 2,049;
- St. Mary, 2,889;
- St. Tammany, 2,218;
- Tangipahoa, 3,446;
- Terrebonne, 4,492; and
- Vermilion, 3,721.
- The U.S. Small Business Administration has approved $3,002,100 for home and business loans.
- A total of more than $21 million for housing assistance has been approved. Housing assistance may include lodging expense reimbursement, emergency minimal repair assistance, temporary rental assistance, and mortgage and rental assistance.
- There have been 48,540 home inspections done and returned to FEMA.
- A total of $19,531,165 has been approved for Individual Family Grants (IFG) administered by the state of Louisiana.
- Total assistance from SBA, housing assistance and IFG is more than $44 million.
- As of today, nine fixed-site Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) are open in Slidell, Houma, St. Bernard, New Iberia, Jennings, Rayne, Abbeville, Lafayette and New Orleans.
- Two mobile DRCs are open today. The one in Lafitte will close at the end of business today. The one in Gramercy will be open through the close of business on Saturday, Oct. 19. Also Oct. 19 a mobile DRC will be in the Community Center on Highway 1 in Grand Isle through Oct. 21.
- Other DRCs may be opened in affected parishes. DRCs are designed t oprovide applicants with an opportunity to discuss their needs with personnel from state, federal and voluntary organizations who can answer questions and provide recovery information about various programs available to individuals and business owners.
