San Antonio, TX -- A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will open in San Patricio County August 5, to assist anyone who may have sustained damages or property loss from the Texas floods of 2002, according to state and federal disaster officials.

The center will be located in the Mathis Junior High School Band Hall at 500 E. St. Mary's Street in Mathis until Saturday, August 10. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Homeowners, renters and business owners may apply for assistance by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency's toll-free registration number at 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY: 800-462-7585 for the hearing or speech impaired.

The DRCs are staffed with experts who can answer questions and provide information about state and federal programs including grants to pay for immediate repairs, temporary housing, crisis counseling, legal aid, disaster unemployment assistance, medical expenses and mitigation publications. Program specialists, and loan officers from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) also are on hand.

"DRCs provide a chance to sit down and talk one-on-one with experts about the types of help available," said Scott Wells, federal coordinating officer. "You can even get help filling out your SBA application for a low-interest loan."

"Call now to apply for help," said Duke Mazurek, state coordinating officer. "Or visit one of the centers. Whether in person or by telephone, we'll help you every step of the way."
