Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms Forecast for Many Parts of the U.S.

The Northeast will see some scattered showers and thunderstorms as a cold front moves southward towards the Mid-Atlantic states. Highs will range from the 60s in northern New England to the 80s in the Mid-Atlantic.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will hit many parts of the South as a storm system moves eastward. Southern Texas will see additional rainfall especially in the Houston area. Highs in the Southeast will range from the 70s in Arkansas and Tennessee to the 90s in southern Georgia. 

The slow-moving cold front in the Midwest (extending on a line from Ohio to Missouri) will continue its eastward movement on Thursday. As the front moves through the area, it will create widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs will range from the upper 60s in Michigan to the 70s-80s in the rest of the region.

Most parts of the West will be hot and dry again on Thursday with highs ranging from the 60s in the Cascades to 110+ in the Desert Southwest. Some western areas will see some rain and showers including: the coastal areas of Washington, Oregon, and Northern California and parts of Colorado and New Mexico. (NWS, Media Sources)

Wildfire Update

Initial wildfire activity at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday was light nationally with 175 new fires reported. One new large fire was reported in the Southern California Area. Five large fires were contained, two in the Southern Area, and one each in the Southwest, Southern California, and Alaska Areas. Very high to extreme fire indices were reported in Arizona, California, Colorado, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Utah.

National Preparedness Level is 2 (On a scale of 1 to 5).

Wildfire Forecast:  No critical areas have been identified for Thursday. The western states will continue to see relatively moderate winds and dry, warm weather. Scattered showers/thunderstorms are expected in New Mexico and eastern Colorado. Florida should see higher humidity levels in most parts of the state. In Alaska, cooler temperatures and higher humidity will lessen the risk of wildfires. (National Interagency Fire Center, NWS, Storm Prediction Center)
