Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED).

National Weather

Midwest:
Wednesday morning rain will spread up through Illinois and extend eastward into the Great Lakes.

Thunderstorms, some severe, are forecast from southern Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin southwestward through Iowa into eastern Nebraska and northern Kansas.

Isolated tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds are possible for areas of the upper Midwest.

Northeast:
Wednesday highs should range from the 20s in far northern Maine to the low 60s in southwestern West Virginia and far western Virginia.

A few showers are expected in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia by Wednesday afternoon.

West:
Scattered showers and higher elevation snow showers are forecasted across the Intermountain West on Wednesday.

Western sections of Washington may see a few showers.

Increased shower activity is forecast across parts of Arizona and New Mexico.

South:
A persistent easterly flow will keep a few showers around the east coast from the Carolinas to Florida, which may produce dangerous rip currents along the coast of Florida, from Melbourne down to Palm Beach.  (NWS, media sources)
