Significant National Weather

West:
High winds are forecast for the northern Rockies and Great Basin in the wake of a Pacific cold front.  Scattered snow showers are expected for Montana, Wyoming and the mountains of Utah.  In Alaska, a Blizzard Warning for Kuskokwim Delta is in effect until 10:00 a.m. AKST.  Winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 65 mph are expected.  High temperatures for the region should range from the teens in Idaho to the 70s near the southern portion of the Colorado River Valley. 

Midwest:
Snow showers are forecast for Michigan, northern Indiana and much of Ohio.  High winds are expected over the Plains and parts of the Upper Midwest.  High temperatures should range from the 20s in the Upper Midwest to the 50s in southwest Kansas. 

Northeast:
Some snow showers are forecast for the northeastern U.S., with little accumulation expected.  High temperatures will range from the upper teens in northern Maine to the 40s in Virginia.

South:
Except for some potentially heavy rain in south Texas tomorrow, the southern U.S. will be dry.  High temperatures are forecast to range from the 30s in much of Tennessee and western North Carolina to the 70s in south Florida. (NWS, Media Sources)

Midwest Severe Weather Update

Illinois:
Kankakee County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency reported flood damage to 30 homes and 2 businesses.  30 residents in Sugar Creek Township were evacuated.  Water levels are receding on the Iroquois and Kankakee Rivers.  The American Red Cross (ARC) has 52 staff and volunteers assigned to flood operations.  The ARC has reported 650 clean up kits have been distributed; 850 meals served; and reports one shelter in operation with a population of 39.  FEMA Region V has identified Individual Assistance and Public Assistance Preliminary Damage Assessment (PDA) teams, and are scheduled to begin assessments today.  No request for Federal  assistance.

Indiana:
Conditions are stable and continue to improve in areas hit hardest by record level flooding; however, 40 counties remain under flood warnings statewide.  Middlebury Wastewater Treatment Plant (Elkhart County) is back online.  The Oakdale and Norway Dams are still under a Flood Emergency.  The American Red Cross reports one shelter in operation, with a population of 25.  Three confirmed fatalities have been associated with the flooding.  FEMA Region V has identified Individual Assistance and Public Assistance PDA teams, and are scheduled to begin assessments on January 16, 2008.  No request for Federal assistance.
