Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED).

Significant Weather

West: An upper-level ridge will continue to dominate weather over the West Coast, with sunny skies from Washington to California and Arizona. A low pressure system dropping south into Colorado will bring one to two inches of snow to the northern Rockies.

Midwest: The upper Midwest will get new snow accumulations of about one half inch. Overnight temperatures will drop well below zero across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. Highs will be 20 to 30 degrees below average region wide, with 10s and 20s in the Ohio Valley and single digits across the northern Plains states.

South: High pressure will produce clear skies and cooler temperatures across most of the South. A cold front will produce a few showers across the southern half of Florida.

Northeast: Yesterday’s storm will be moving off the coast this morning after dropping a few additional inches of snow from the Capital District to Southern New England. Snow showers will continue across much of the Northeast. Lake effect snow will produce up to a foot of snow downwind of Lakes Erie and Ontario. (NWS, Media Sources)

Tropical Activity

At 4:00 am EST December 6 the center of Hurricane Epsilon was located about 525 miles west-southwest of the Azores.

Epsilon is moving toward the south near 5 mph. A turn to the southwest with some increase in forward speed is expected during the next 24 hours.

Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph with higher gusts. Some weakening is expected during the next 24 hours.

Based on the current forecast Hurricane Epsilon is no threat to land and is expected to dissipate by Dec 10.
