LONG BEACH, Miss. -- Victims of Hurricane Gustav should report any additional damage they discover from the storm to the Federal Emergency Management Agency as soon as possible even if they have already registered for federal and state disaster assistance, officials of FEMA and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency advise.
Once the additional damage is reported to 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or the TTY number 1-800-462-7585, FEMA will re-inspect the property for a new determination of eligibility. The maximum amount of disaster grants households may receive, however, is $28,800 for this disaster declaration.
Any resident of the five counties declared for Individual Assistance - Adams, Hancock, Harrison, Washington and Wilkinson - who received damage from Gustav have until Nov. 25, 2008, to register with FEMA for disaster aid. Storm victims can register by calling the toll-free registration numbers indicated above or online at www.fema.gov. Once registered, applicants should keep FEMA informed of any changes in their contact information.
