FEMA Announces Grants To Help Four Texas Fire Departments

In ceremonies held recently at the Denton Fire Department, FEMA Region VI Deputy Director Greg Jones announced that the Krum Volunteer Fire Department received $38,142 for new self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBA); the Ponder Volunteer Fire Department received $43,056 for turn out gear and SCBAs; the Denton Fire Department received $57,456 for a fire prevention and education program directed at children and other vulnerable populations, including distribution of up to 5,000 smoke detectors, and the Lewisville Fire Department received $36,763 to fund firefighter safety and survival training. Congress and President Bush under the Assistance make grants available to Firefighters Grant Program, administered by FEMA. To date, 248 Texas fire departments have received nearly $16 million under the program.
