Houston, TX -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Texas announced today the realignment of the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC). The Disaster Recovery Center at the Harris County Social Service Center, 9418 Jensen, will close at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, 2001.

To serve those affected from Tropical Storm Allison, the following DRCs will remain open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At these centers, individuals may receive information about various programs, check the status of applications, apply for loans and grants, obtain tax forms to file for disaster losses and get tips on rebuilding and preventing losses from future disasters.

Those affected by Tropical Storm Allison may apply for disaster assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free application number at 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585 for hearing- and speech-impaired persons). The toll-free registration lines are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday - Saturday. The deadline to apply for assistance is October 8, 2001.
