Langley, KY -- Kentucky Emergency Management (KyEM) and Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) officials urge residents and businesses affected by July flash flooding in Floyd, Knott, Letcher, Perry and Pike counties to register for assistance before the Oct. 15 deadline.
Through Thursday, a total of 1,175 have applied for assistance from these counties declared eligible for help under FEMA's individual assistance program.
"This is a pleasing number, but we don't want to leave with nagging doubts about anyone being left out," Michael Bolch, federal coordinating officer, said. He reminded neighbors to contact neighbors who may be away on extended trips or otherwise unaware of the approaching application deadline.
"The only way to register is through the toll-free registration number, I-800-462-9029 or 1-800-462-7585 for speech and hearing impaired," Bolch said.
"The only way to receive cash grants or low interest loans for losses not covered by insurance is to make that toll-free call to FEMA. That opens the door for both federal and state aid," Charlie Winter, deputy state coordinating officer, added.
