President Approves Emergency Funds For New Jersey - Response To World Trade Center Terrorists Attacks

Washington, DC -- Federal funds were made available for New Jersey by President Bush today to cover state and local emergency response costs associated with the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center last week, according to the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
FEMA Director Joe M. Allbaugh said the assistance was authorized under an emergency declaration issued by the President following a review of the agency's analysis of the state's request for federal assistance.
Under the declaration, Allbaugh said the federal government will pay the state and participating local government agencies 100 percent of the approved costs for emergency services provided in response to the explosions and fires at the World Trade Center.
Allbaugh designated all of the state's 21 counties eligible for the assistance following the declaration. He indicated that additional forms of aid may be made available as soon as other requirements can be fully assessed.
Peter Martinasco of FEMA was named by Allbaugh to coordinate the federal assistance. Martinasco said procedures for requesting the assistance will be explained at a series of applicant briefings at locations to be announced shortly in the designated areas.
