AUSTIN, Texas -- To help meet the ongoing needs of those affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Texas Governor’s Division of Emergency Management (GDEM) are opening another Disaster Recovery Center.

A Disaster Recovery Center is scheduled to open in Beaumont on Monday, Oct. 31. The Beaumont area was one of the hardest-hit targets of Hurricane Rita. With this opening, there will be 8 fixed centers and 7 temporary centers open in Texas. More than 231,506 have visited these centers.
Visitors can talk face-to-face about recovery options with representatives from local, state and federal agencies, and voluntary organizations at the Disaster Recovery Centers.

Specifically, Disaster Recovery Centers are available for visitors to:

Disaster Assistance may include grants to help pay for temporary housing, minor home repair and other serious disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance or other sources.
