Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers To Visit Leake, Neshoba, Warren And Yazoo Counties

JACKSON, Miss. -- In an effort to reach out to disaster-declared counties, two mobile Disaster Recovery Centers will visit four cities in western and central Mississippi between Oct. 26 and Nov. 5, federal and state officials have announced.

The mobile Disaster Recovery Centers will start by visiting Vicksburg and Carthage this week. The centers serve individuals and families affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Disaster victims are urged to register for assistance before visiting one of the mobile centers by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech- or hearing-impaired. Those who have questions may visit a mobile center to meet with recovery specialists in person.

All DRCs – both at mobile and fixed sites around the state – are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed Sundays until further notice.

Representatives of state, federal and voluntary agencies will be on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information. Officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be available to discuss disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes. Written materials about various assistance programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
