Some Disaster Recovery Centers To Close On Sundays

BATON ROUGE, La. — State and federal officials announce Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will close Sundays beginning October 23 in Shreveport, Monroe, Plaquemine, Lafayette, Alexandria, Minden, Belle Chasse, Baton Rouge, Bogalusa, Franklinton, Marksville, Slidell, Algiers, Vacherie, Thibodeaux and Bonite.

Hours for Monday though Saturday will remain 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. except for the center in Plaquemine, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to accommodate a local curfew. The Sunday closing schedule will remain in effect until further notice. All other Louisiana DRCs will continue to operate seven days a week.

Louisiana residents affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita are urged to register for assistance before visiting a Disaster Recovery Center by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or by going on line at www.fema.gov. The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech- or hearing-impaired. Those seeking assistance may visit any of the 36 Disaster Recovery Centers in Louisiana.

Representatives of state, federal and voluntary agencies are on hand at Disaster Recovery Centers to answer questions and provide recovery information. Officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are available to discuss disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes. Written materials about various assistance programs also are available to individuals and business owners.
