New Disaster Recovery Center Opens In Natchez

JACKSON, Miss. -- State and federal officials have opened a new Disaster Recovery Center in Natchez to serve individuals and families impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

Persons who have suffered losses or damages as a result of Hurricane Katrina may go to any Disaster Recovery Center to follow up on their registrations.

Disaster victims are urged to register for assistance before visiting the center by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY number is 1 800 462 7585 for those who are speech- or hearing-impaired. Those who have questions may visit the center to meet with recovery specialists in person.

The new Disaster Recovery Center is located in Adams County at:

The DRC will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday until further notice.

Representatives of state, federal and voluntary agencies will be on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information. Officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be available to discuss disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes. Written materials about various assistance programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
