ORLANDO, Fla. -- FEMA and Florida officials will end operations at the Disaster Recovery Center in Milton at the close of business at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 14).

The Disaster Recovery Center in Ft. Walton Beach will continue to serve Panhandle residents with information about disaster assistance and steps they can take to lessen damages in future disasters. At a Disaster Recovery Center, individuals and business owners can also receive help from U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) representatives in filling out disaster loan applications.

More than 20,000 Floridians affected by Hurricane Dennis have visited one of the 14 Disaster Recovery Center locations opened by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and Florida’s State Emergency Response Team shortly after Hurricane Dennis struck on July 10.

Additionally, Florida officials continue to operate a One-Stop Joint Assistance Center at Town and Country Plaza in Pensacola as a resource for Floridians and hurricane evacuees from neighboring states. This center and the federal-state Disaster Recovery Centers have served more than 17,000 out-of-state applicants.

Disaster assistance for Hurricane Dennis victims has topped $21.1 million in grants for temporary housing, repairs and other needs assistance. The SBA has approved more than $23.8 million in low-interest disaster loans. So far, more than $71 million has been approved in public assistance grants to local governments for emergency protective services, debris removal and infrastructure repair.

Applicants who have registered can continue to get assistance online at www.fema.gov or by telephone. The FEMA toll-free Helpline number is 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY number at 1 800 462 7585 for speech- or hearing-impaired applicants.
