MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- A State/FEMA mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will open in Eufaula in Barbour County on Tuesday, October 18.

The DRC is located at Lakepoint Resort, 104 Lakepoint Drive, Eufaula. The hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. It will remain open for five days, closing on Saturday, October 22 at 6 p.m.

Specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the state and representatives from other government and volunteer organizations will provide information about a broad range of disaster assistance programs. Aid may include housing assistance, individual and household grants and U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loans for home-owners, renters and businesses. Mitigation specialists will provide practical guidance on rebuilding and repairing a home or business to reduce damage from future storms.

Residents and displaced evacuees now living in Alabama or in nearby Georgia are encouraged to visit the DRC to learn the status of their applications or to get answers to questions concerning disaster programs. Applicants are reminded to bring their FEMA registration number and Social Security number when visiting the DRC.

Individuals should first register before visiting the DRC by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), or for the speech- or hearing-impaired, (TTY) 800-462-7585. The lines are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until further notice. Registration via the Internet is available online at http://www.fema.gov.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages the federal response and recovery efforts following an incident of national significance. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities to reduce the risk of loss in future disasters, trains first responders, workers with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
