Disaster Recovery Centers to Open in Hale and Marengo Counties

Montgomery , Ala. -- Mobile state/FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will open in Hale and Marengo counties after completing one week stays in Greene and Choctaw counties.

The DRCs will open at noon on the first day, after which the hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Here are the new locations and their opening and closing dates:

Hale County - Opens Thursday, October 6

Marengo County - Opens Monday, October 10 through Saturday, October 15
Address: Linden National Guard Armory
Fort Hill-McManus-Boggs
2400 E. Coats Ave.
Hwy. 28 E, Linden

The Greene County DRC closes on Wednesday, October 5. The Choctaw County DRC closes on Saturday, October 8. They will operate until 6 p.m. on the closing dates.

A fixed DRC located in Washington County closes on Friday, October 7. Individuals in the county wishing information or assistance can continue to call the toll-free registration and Helpline at 800 621-FEMA (3362). The speech- or hearing-impaired should call 800-462-7585.

The mobile centers, staffed by State and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recovery specialists and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan officers, have telecommunication and network computer links to assist registrants.

The DRC staff is available to meet one-on-one with disaster survivors to explain various programs, help with paperwork, and track or update application information. It is important to first call and register for assistance before visiting the DRC. The lines are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until further notice. Registration via the Internet is available online at www.fema.gov .

Applicants are reminded to bring their FEMA registration number and Social Security number when visiting a DRC. Anyone who has already registered for federal/state disaster assistance is not required to visit a center regarding their application, but is invited to do so for disaster-related information.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages the federal response and recovery efforts following an incident of national significance. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
