Additional Disaster Recovery Centers Open In Texas

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Texas Governor's Division of Emergency Management announced today that two more temporary Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) are open and some existing DRCs have changed operating hours to accommodate curfews. There are now 21 centers available in Texas for the informational needs of the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. (Addressses for DRCs follow.)
Victims of the hurricanes are urged to register for assistance first by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or logging on to www.fema.gov. The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech or hearing-impaired. People without telephone or Internet can access these services for FEMA registration at any of the DRCs located across the state. After applying, those who have questions may meet face-to-face with recovery specialists.
Representatives of state, federal, and voluntary agencies, as well as Customer Service Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information. No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed at Disaster Recovery Centers. These centers are for the delivery of information to assist in victim recovery. Written materials about various assistance programs are also available to individuals and business owners.
The two DRCs operating at Kelly Air Force Base have consolidated into one location in Building 1537. A DRC opened in Lufkin and a mobile DRC will setup in Marshall Monday through Wednesday, then move to the city of Jefferson to open Thursday morning.
