ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has amended the Aug. 26 major disaster declaration to add Nassau, Palm Beach and Volusia counties for Public Assistance (PA).

Local governments and eligible private non-profit organizations in these designated counties may apply for federal funds to pay 75 percent of the approved cost of debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster, and for repairing or replacing damaged public facilities, such as roads, buildings and utilities.

The three counties bring the total number designated for PA to 15, including Baker, Bradford, Brevard, Collier, Gadsden, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Monroe, Okeechobee, St. Lucie and Union counties.

Ongoing joint preliminary damage assessments conducted at the request of the state continue elsewhere in Florida with results provided to the governor.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
