Winnebago County Added To Iowa Disaster Declaration for Public Assistance

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Winnebago County can now be counted among the 84 Iowa counties eligible for Public Assistance according to the Rebuild Iowa Office (RIO) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Winnebago County first became eligible for Individual Assistance on Aug. 13. Today's amendment provides Public Assistance to state and local governments and certain non-profit organizations in Winnebago County. They are now eligible to apply for federal Public Assistance funds to help pay for eligible costs of debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster and repairing or replacing damaged public facilities, such as roads, buildings and utilities. A series of applicant briefings to explain the application process will be held for state and local officials.

The original May 27 federal major disaster declaration for severe storms, tornadoes and flooding has now been amended 18 times as more counties have been added.

The number of designated counties is now 85 of Iowa's 99 counties. One of the counties, Audubon, has Individual Assistance but not Public Assistance; 11 have Public Assistance but not Individual Assistance.

The 84 counties designated for Public Assistance are: Adair, Adams, Allamakee, Appanoose, Benton, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Clarke, Clayton, Clinton, Crawford, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Delaware, Des Moines, Dubuque, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Fremont, Greene, Grundy, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, Henry, Howard, Humboldt, Iowa, Jackson, Jasper, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Kossuth, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Lucas, Lyon, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Mills, Mitchell, Monona, Monroe, Montgomery, Muscatine, Page, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Polk, Pottawattamie, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Scott, Story, Tama, Taylor, Union, Van Buren, Wapello, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Webster,Winnebago, Winneshiek, Worth and Wright.
