Illinois Storm Victims: Less Than One Week Left To Apply For Disaster Assistance

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Illinois residents and business owners have less than one week to apply for federal disaster assistance. Monday, August 25 is the last day to register for federal disaster assistance.
Eighteen counties are designated for individual assistance allowing those residents to apply for federal aid. They are Adams, Calhoun, Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Hancock, Henderson, Jasper, Jersey, Lake, Lawrence, Mercer, Rock Island, Whiteside and Winnebago.
"Don't disqualify yourself for federal aid by not applying," said FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Libby Turner. "The deadline is just around the corner. If you haven't called FEMA yet, now is the time."
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan applications for those who suffered physical damage from the disaster in Illinois need to be returned or postmarked by August 25.
Small businesses and private non-profit organizations sustaining economic injury need to have their SBA loan application submitted by March 23, 2009.
The SBA provides low-interest disaster loans to qualified homeowners, renters and businesses of any size that sustained losses due to disasters. These loans are designed for people who were uninsured or not fully covered by insurance.
More than 3,100 have registered for disaster assistance in Illinois and more than $7.3 million in FEMA disaster assistance funds has been approved thus far. Additionally, the SBA disaster assistance program has approved more than $6.5 million in disaster loans.
