SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The State of Illinois and the Federal Emergency Management Agency held an open house for the media on Monday, August 11 at the Disaster Mobile Home Staging Center in Springfield. Speakers for the event were Michael Chamness, chair of the Illinois Terrorism Task Force, on behalf of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and FEMA Deputy Federal Coordinating Officer Mark Landry.

"While flood waters have receded and many flood victims have been able to resume a normal life, we can't forget those who were displaced from their homes by the storms," said Illinois Governor Rod R. Blagojevich. "Having a safe, comfortable home to live in will help families with the long term recovery process."

Media had an opportunity to walk through a display mobile home, as well as ask questions they had about the program.

"It's important that the media has a chance to see close-up how some of the victims of the storms and flooding from June 1 to July 22 will live," said Landry. "A mobile home may be the best situation for them when they have no other options."

Disaster mobile homes began arriving at the staging area on Friday, August 8 in preparation for their departure to approved sites in the communities where needed.

Illinois residents who sustained damage as a result of the severe storms and flooding from June 1 to July 22 in one of the 18 declared counties and have not registered for disaster assistance should call FEMA's toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Those with hearing or speech impairments with TTY equipment should call 1-800-462-7585. Both lines are available daily, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. CDT. You can also register online at www.fema.gov/

The counties designated eligible for Individual Assistance are: Adams, Calhoun, Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Hancock, Henderson, Jasper, Jersey, Lake, Lawrence, Mercer, Rock Island, Whiteside and Winnebago.
