Counties Added To Iowa Disaster Declaration

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Four additional counties are now eligible for Individual Assistance and two additional counties are now eligible for Public Assistance to repair infrastructure, the Rebuild Iowa Office (RIO) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. Joint federal and state disaster assessments are on-going throughout the state.

Appanoose, Clarke, Monroe, and Ringgold counties have been added to the May 27 federal major disaster declaration providing Individual Assistance to homeowners, renters and business owners affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding beginning on May 25 and continuing. Individual Assistance has now been approved for 67 Iowa counties.

Affected residents and business owners in the added counties for Individual Assistance may register immediately by calling the FEMA toll-free Helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. (CDT) seven days a week. Those with a speech and hearing impairment may call a special TTY number at 1-800-462-7585. Online registration is available at www.fema.gov.

In addition, state and local governments and certain non-profit organizations in Clarke and Wayne counties are now eligible to apply for federal Public Assistance funds to pay 75 percent of the approved cost of debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster and repairing or replacing damaged public facilities, such as roads, buildings and utilities. A series of applicant briefings to explain the application process will be held for state and local officials.

The number of designated counties is now 82.

The 67 counties designated for Individual Assistance are now: Adams, Allamakee, Appanoose, Benton, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clarke, Clayton, Clinton, Crawford, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Delaware, Des Moines, Dubuque, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Fremont, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, Iowa, Jasper, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Kossuth, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Mills, Mitchell, Monona, Monroe, Montgomery, Muscatine, Page, Polk, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Scott, Story, Tama, Union, Van Buren, Wapello, Warren, Washington, Webster, Winneshiek, Worth and Wright.
