SPRINGFIELD, Ill.  -- The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency want to help Illinois residents who sustained damages and losses from the severe storms and flooding from June 1 to July 22 recover the costs of certain serious and necessary expenses related to that disaster.

Uninsured or under-insured residents of the 18 Illinois counties designated for federal and state individual assistance may be eligible to receive help from FEMA's Other Needs Assistance (ONA) program.

The ONA program may help individuals and families pay for necessary items and seriously needed services such as:

To apply for an ONA grant, it is necessary to register with FEMA by calling the toll-free registration/Helpline, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) and completing the SBA loan application. If the SBA determines you can not afford to repay a loan, the recovery specialists will automatically refer you to the grant program. Hearing- or speech-impaired individuals with TTY equipment should call TTY 1-800-462-7585. The lines are open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 11 p.m. CDT

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
