More Stops For Mobile Disaster Recovery Center

Corpus Christi, TX -- Disaster recovery officials have added several more stops for the Mobile Disaster Recovery Center. Surfside Beach, Matagorda and Sargent have been added to the list of destinations.

Individuals and business owners in the disaster declared counties are urged to call FEMA's registration line 1-800-621-FEMA or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech or hearing-impaired, to apply for assistance before going to one of the centers. Disaster Recovery Centers are designed to provide detailed program information to those who have already registered.

The Mobile Disaster Recovery Center will be in the following locations:

All Mobile Disaster Recovery Center locations will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Representatives from FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and state agencies will be on hand to answer disaster assistance questions. Those who haven't already registered may do so by calling FEMA's registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech or hearing-impaired. The registration line is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.

These mobile sites are in addition to the fixed locations previously announced for: Port Lavaca, Palacios and Victoria, as well as the Mobile Disaster Recovery Center locations in Goliad (closing 6 p.m. July 31), Tivoli-open August 1 and 2 and Refugio, open August 4 and 5.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
