Frankfort, KY. - Two Disaster Recovery Centers in the Eastern Kentucky communities of Grayson and Hazard will close at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, state and federal disaster relief officials said today.

The centers assist individuals affected by the storms, floods, slides, and tornadoes that struck the state between June 14 and June 27. On hand are federal and state disaster workers, crisis counselors, voluntary agencies and representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) who help homeowners, renters, and business owners fill out disaster loan applications.

The Grayson Disaster Recovery Center operates at the East Carter Middle School at 1 Spirit Lane. The second center is at the Rural Law Enforcement Technology Center, 101 Bulldog Lane, Hazard, Ky.

State Coordinating Officer Charlie Winter said that a third Disaster Recovery Center will remain open in Martin until 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, a week after the other two close. That center is at Martin Community Center, 7199 Ky. Rte. 80.

"Even after these centers close, FEMA assistance is just a telephone call away," said Federal Coordinating Officer Scott Wells. "People can call FEMA at (800) 621-3362 to find out about assistance programs and the status of their applications."

Recovery and loss prevention information is also available on FEMA's web site at http://www.fema.gov/.

Persons affected by the disaster are urged to call FEMA's toll-free number at 1-800-621-3362 and apply for assistance. Hearing and speech impaired individuals may call TDD at 1-800-462-7585. Some disaster programs include temporary housing assistance, help for other disaster-related needs and low-interest disaster loans.
