Charleston, WV -- State and federal officials announced today that Preston County is eligible for Individual Assistance (IA) and Public Assistance (PA) under the June 21, 2003 federal disaster declaration, and that Tucker County is eligible for PA. Doddridge and Putnam counties, already designated for Individual Assistance, will also receive PA. Storm damages that occurred between June 11 and midnight July 15, 2003 in the designated counties can be considered under this declaration.

Residents of the counties declared for IA may apply for housing assistance, which may include help with rental or repairs; U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans for individuals, renters and businesses to repair or replace damaged property; disaster unemployment assistance; and grants for serious needs and necessary disaster expenses not met by other programs.

If you live or work in a disaster-declared county and suffered damages to your home or other losses, call the FEMA toll-free teleregistration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- or hearing-impaired. You may call from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday until further notice. Applications are handled on a case-by-case basis.

The counties declared for IA and PA are Boone, Cabell, Doddridge, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, McDowell, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Preston, Putnam, Wayne, and Wyoming. Berkeley, Harrison, and Ritchie are eligible for IA only. Tucker is eligible for PA only. This brings the total number of counties participating in the declaration to 19.
