Charleston, WV -- Monongalia County has been added to the list of counties eligible to receive disaster assistance under the June 21 federally declared disaster for West Virginia. The declaration covers storm-related damage and losses under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) Individual Assistance (IA) and Public Assistance (PA) programs.

Applicants for IA may apply for housing assistance and housing repair; U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans for individuals, renters and businesses to repair or replace damaged property; disaster unemployment assistance; and grants for serious needs and necessary disaster expenses not met by other programs.

Under the PA program Monongalia County may receive help for emergency work such as debris removal and emergency protective measures; or for permanent work including repair of roads and bridges, water control facilities, buildings and equipment, utilities and parks, recreational facilities and other public items and places.

Monongalia residents, who suffered damages to their home or other losses, can call the FEMA toll-free teleregistration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- or hearing-impaired. Calls are taken from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday until further notice. Each application is handled on a case-by-case basis.

The counties declared for IA and PA are Boone, Cabell, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, McDowell, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Wayne, and Wyoming. Berkeley and Putnam are eligible for IA. The total number of counties participating in the declaration is 14.
