Frankfort, KY -- In an effort to reach out to victims of recent storms, state and federal officials from the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management Agency (KyEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have opened Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) in Grayson, Hazard and Martin.

"This is an opportunity for individuals and business owners who had damages from the severe weather in May and June to get help with their disaster assistance applications," State Coordinating Officer Charlie Winter said.

The centers will serve disaster victims at the following locations:

East Carter Middle School
1 Spirit Lane
Grayson, Ky
(Take Robert and Mary Street north off Highway 60)

Rural Law Enforcement Technology Center
101 Bulldog Lane
Hazard, Ky

Martin Community Center
7199 Ky. Route 80
Martin, Ky

Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., until further notice.

The recovery staff at the center will provide answers to questions, recovery information, and written materials about various assistance programs available to individuals and business owners," Federal Coordinating Officer Scott Wells said. "They also will explain that people who suffered damages in both the May and June storms must file separate applications for each disaster to receive assistance for damage caused in these events."

Disaster programs include temporary housing assistance, help for other disaster-related needs and low-interest disaster loans offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Representatives from the Kentucky Emergency Management (KyEM), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the SBA will be on hand to answer questions and provide guidance to applicants seeking various forms of disaster assistance. SBA representatives will be available to assist with disaster loan applications. The SBA disaster loan program provides low-interest loans to homeowners and renters, as well as businesses.

Persons affected by the disaster are urged to call FEMA's toll-free number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) and apply for assistance before visiting the center. Hearing- and speech-impaired individuals may call TDD at 1-800-462-7585. When applying by phone, individuals should be prepared to provide a phone number, social security number, current mailing address, the address of the damaged property, a brief description of the damages and insurance information.
