Pago Pago, American Samoa -- The American Samoa Government (ASG) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have announced that representatives at the Disaster Recovery Center, located at the Lee Auditorium, are now available to supply information, answer questions and provide status checks on registrations.

The Helpline, 633-3036, also remains available for questions and checking the status of registrations.

The Center is still available for registration for those who suffered damages as a result of the May 19-21 flash floods and severe mudslides. The deadline to register for disaster assistance is August 5, 2003.

The hours for the DRC and Helpline will remain open Monday-Friday 7:30 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.

In March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
