Charleston, WV - To better serve those affected by the severe storms, flooding and landslides that began on June 11, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of West Virginia will open a second Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Charleston on Wednesday, July 9. It will remain at this location until further notice.

The new DRC will be at the North Charleston Community Center on 2009 7th Avenue in Charleston. The DRC that opened in Charleston on June 30 is still available to the public at 4782 Big Chimney Drive.

Representatives will be on hand to discuss disaster recovery issues Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The centers will be closed on Sundays.

Qualified personnel provide recovery information and written materials about various assistance programs available to individuals and business owners. Programs include disaster housing assistance, grants for disaster-related needs, low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), disaster unemployment assistance and crisis counseling.

State Coordinating Officer Stephen S. Kappa and Federal Coordinating Officer Louis Botta urge those who have questions to visit the center.

"We are opening a second center in Charleston because we want to make it as easy as possible for the public to get the information they need," said Kappa. "And we want anyone who has questions to stop by the North Charleston Community Center or the Big Chimney DRC and meet with our representatives."

Anyone who has not registered with FEMA is encouraged to begin the process as soon as possible. To make an application, call 1-800-621 FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing or speech impaired.
