Charleston, WV -- State and federal officials from the West Virginia Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have established a Disaster Recovery Center to assist individuals affected by the severe storms, flooding and landslides that began on June 11. The center will open in Putnam County on Tuesday, July 8 and will be located at:

Hurricane City Hall
(inside the Hurricane Municipal Building)
3255 Teays Valley Road
Hurricane, WV
Hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Closing: Friday, July 11 at 7 p.m.

The center will provide answers to questions, recovery information, and written materials about various assistance programs available to individuals and business owners. Some disaster programs include temporary housing assistance, grants for individuals and households, low- interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and disaster unemployment assistance.

Federal Coordinating Officer Louis Botta joins State Coordinating Officer Stephen S. Kappa in encouraging individuals affected by the disaster to visit the center. "There are many programs available for homeowners, renters, and businesses," said Kappa. "This is a great opportunity for individuals to sit down with different agencies and get all of their questions answered concerning the recovery process."

Those who have been affected by the disaster are encouraged to start the application process before visiting the center by calling FEMA's toll-free teleregistration number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Hearing and speech-impaired individuals may call TTY at 1-800-462-7585.
