Charleston, WV -- Federal and state recovery officials today announced the opening of another Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Mason County on Wednesday, July 2 and the extension of the Boone County DRC until close of business Monday, July 7. These centers and the other DRCs in Cabell, Kanawha and Logan will follow a special schedule for the July 4 holiday weekend.
All recovery centers will be open regular hours (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.) on July 3 but will be closed on July 4, along with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free teleregistration number. The registration line and DRCs will reopen Saturday, July 5, to work regular hours. On Sunday, July 6, the DRCs will open with reduced Sunday hours: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. All open recovery centers will resume regular hours (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.) on Monday, July 7, until further notice. Hours and dates of operation are listed below.
Visiting a Disaster Recovery Center is not required. However, given the wide range of state and federal disaster assistance programs, many people find it helpful to use this resource. Recovery Centers are free and open to the public. West Virginians affected by the disaster are encouraged to visit any of the centers to talk face-to-face with a recovery specialist.
Federal Coordinating Officer Louis Botta and State Coordinating Officer Stephen S. Kappa encourage West Virginians to first apply for disaster assistance by calling the toll-free application number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, excluding July 4. Persons who are hearing or speech impaired can apply by calling a special TTY number: 1-800-462-7585.
