Williston, VT -- Vermont Emergency Management (VEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) report that 153 people affected by June 5 through 13 flooding have registered for assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free number. Officials encourage everyone who sustained disaster-related losses during that time to register for federal assistance by calling: 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY number for those who are hearing-or speech-impaired is: 1-800-462-7585.
State and FEMA officials report a total of more than $230,000 in federal disaster assistance to individuals, families and businesses in Caledonia, Franklin, Lamoille, and Orleans counties.
After registering with the toll-free number, applicants who require additional information can visit face-to-face with representatives from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) at a Disaster Recovery Center. The centers are designed to provide more detailed program information to those who have applied for assistance by calling the toll-free registration number. Centers are located in the Municipal Office Building, 119 Park Avenue, in Lyndonville and the Barlow Street Community Center, 39 Barlow Street, in St. Albans. Operating hours for both centers are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday until further notice.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) scheduled a series of briefings to help local government and eligible non-profit organizations apply for federal disaster recovery assistance. Briefings were held this week in Lyndon, Newport, and Fairfield, for applicants in Caledonia, Franklin, Orleans, and Essex counties.
