San Antonio, TX -- Callahan, Duval, Jim Wells, Live Oak, McMullen, San Patricio and Zavala counties have been added to the list of Texas counties eligible for federal disaster assistance as a result of the Texas Floods of 2002, which began on June 29. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) made the designation following a review of additional information regarding damages to these seven counties.

The designation means that residents of the seven counties are eligible to apply for disaster assistance, which could include disaster housing assistance, low-interest loans to repair or replace storm-damaged property or grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not met by other programs.

The addition of these counties brings to 31 the number of Texas counties eligible for the individual assistance program. Other counties eligible for disaster assistance under the Presidential disaster declaration are: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Blanco, Brown, Caldwell, Comal, Eastland, Frio, Gillespie, Goliad, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hays, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, La Salle, Medina, Real, Taylor, Travis, Uvalde, Wilson.

Individuals and business owners are urged to call the toll-free registration line at 800-621-FEMA (3362) to apply for disaster aid, (800-462-7585 for hearing or speech impaired).
