FEMA Announces New Web Site Design

Washington, DC -- FEMA Director Joe M. Allbaugh today unveiled the Agency's redesigned website, www.fema.gov. The redesigned site features improved navigation and user interface, a standardized look and feel across the entire site, an expanded weather feature, and a new user-centric layout.
"The new site will be a great resource for both citizens and emergency management professionals across the country," Allbaugh said. "People come to FEMA's site for information about how to protect their homes from disasters, how to get Flood Insurance or see which counties are endangered by a hurricane -- the redesigned site will help people find that information quickly and reliably."
Among the changes in the site:
- Improved Navigation -- flatter architecture requires fewer clicks to find specific pages
- User-Centric Design -- information organized by user-group instead of program, allowing citizens and emergency managers alike quickly find the specific information relevant to them.
- One-Stop Shopping -- hazard specific pages that contain relevant information on floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.
- Weather -- an expanded weather access area on the home page
- Active Disaster Map -- graphical interface of active disasters boldthe nation
- Accessibility -- easier for users with disabilities to navigate the entire site
