Three More Assistance Centers Will Open

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Three more assistance centers will open next week to help residents of counties affected by this winter’s severe flooding, the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) announced today.

Before visiting the centers, affected homeowners, renters and business owners should contact their insurance carriers, and register for disaster assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, or by registering on line at www.FEMA.gov. The registration number is (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech- or hearing-impaired.

The centers will be staffed by OES and other state agencies, voluntary agencies, FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration and other federal agencies to answer questions and provide information about disaster recovery and reducing damage in future disasters.

Center hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The centers will be closed on Sundays.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
