WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Another potential "problem date " in the Y2K computer system transition has passed without significant reported disruptions. As of today, there have been no reports of related computer problems resulting in system failures or service disruptions.
April 9, 1999 is the 99th day of 1999, and in some computers or programs, the concern was the date would be read as 9999. Computer programmers used the number 9999 as a default code. It was thought that in computer systems not ready for the Y2K transition, their programming could misinterpret the date and cause a problem.
