Central Plains States Flooding Update

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The weekend brought heavy rains for states from Louisiana north to Illinois. In Missouri, numerous homes and business are reported affected by flash flooding in Fredericktown (pop. 4,000). The Governor of Missouri has declared a state of emergency in southern and east-central Missouri due to extensive flash flooding.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued flash flood watches today for a large swath of the central U.S., including Missouri and Illinois, much of Arkansas, central and eastern sections of north Texas, and northeast Louisiana and Mississippi. By tomorrow, NWS forecasters expect the center of this system will move to the north, bringing substantial rain to parts of the western Great Lakes, Minnesota and the Dakotas. They anticipate severe weather and heavy rain will stretch south along the Mississippi River Valley as well.
