ORLANDO, Fla. -- State and federal officials announce that the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Civic Center in Boynton Beach, 128 East Ocean Avenue, is now closed. Plans are underway to open a new DRC in this area in the near future. This closing is due to the lease expiring on the Civic Center location.

There are now 29 fixed-site DRCs and eight mobile DRC units open throughout the state. All DRCs are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, until further notice. All DRC’s are closed for the New Year’s Holiday from Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, to Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005.

Victims of the hurricanes are urged to register for assistance first by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech or hearing-impaired. After applying, those who have questions may visit a center to meet face-to-face with recovery specialists.

Floridians may also register for assistance online. Those with access to a computer should enter the FEMA website at http://www.fema.gov. Look for and click on the words “Register for Disaster Assistance Online” located at the top-right side of the page in a green box.
