Disaster Recovery Center Visit Can Provide Answers To Flood Insurance Questions

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Flood insurance policy holders with questions about claims resulting from Tropical Depressions Frances and Ivan may visit a mitigation specialist at any Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in the state.

“FEMA’s flood insurance and mitigation specialists are teamed with other insurance specialists from the state,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Tom Davies. “These experts can help you understand your policy and resolve insurance issues.”

The Disaster Recovery Centers, open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, are located in the following counties:

Allegheny County -- Community College of Allegheny, Allegheny Campus, Physical Education Building, 845 Ridge Ave, Pittsburgh
Armstrong County -- Alltel Building, 201 North Jefferson St., Kittanning
Beaver County -- Northern Lights Shopping Center, on Route 65, Economy Borough
Blair County -- Sheetz Distribution Center, Sheetz Way, (off Quarry Road) Claysburg
Dauphin County -- TecPort Business Center (back of Cross Gates Bldg. by Harrisburg East Mall, 470 Friendship Road, Harrisburg
Lycoming County -- Faxon Lumber Company, 1700 East Third St., Williamsport
Luzerne County -- Valley Crest Nursing Home, 1551 East End Road, Wilkes-Barre
Northampton County -- Forks Township Community Center, 500 Zucksville Road, Easton
Washington County -- Washington Mall (Old Nat’l Record Mart Bldg.) 301 Oakspring Rd., Washington

“A visit to a Disaster Recovery Centers can also provide assistance and information to disaster victims and direct access to local, state and federal specialists. Experts will be available to answer questions about disaster housing assistance, low-interest disaster loans and grants for those ineligible for loans,” said David M. Sanko, state coordinating officer.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
