When Tropical Storm Jeanne has passed, and safety and security inspections, conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety’s Division of Emergency Management (CCPS-DEM) teams, have been completed, operations will continue.

This temporary suspension of DRC activities frees up local first responders to concentrate on providing all necessary emergency needs to their communities. It also allows residents to focus their attention on the pending preparations. DRC personnel will be ready to get back to work quickly after the danger has passed.

When the DRC sites are inspected and approved for service, they will reopen to continue with their mission of assisting those affected by Tropical Storm Frances and Hurricane Ivan.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
