Disaster Survivors Of The July Storms Have Just Two Weeks Left To Apply For Assistance

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Individuals and business owners who sustained damage from the storms, floods and landslides that began in late July, and who have not yet registered for federal disaster assistance, have only two weeks left to apply. Tuesday, October 5 is the last day to file an application. October 5 is also the last day to return U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan applications.
Applicants may qualify for help under several federal and state programs. These include temporary disaster housing assistance; SBA low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes; and assistance for disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.
Individuals, businesses and certain non-profit organizations may be eligible if their residence, job or business is located in Fayette, Lincoln, Logan or Mingo County—the counties included in the federal disaster declaration.
Individuals can apply by calling the toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
Hearing- or speech-impaired individuals may call the TTY registration number at 1-800-462-7585. Calls are taken daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
