BATON ROUGE, La. -- The State of Louisiana and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have opened Disaster Recovery Centers on Sunday to help people who suffered losses and damages from Hurricane Ivan.
"People will be able to talk face-to-face with representatives from FEMA's Individual Assistance program, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Louisiana Departments of Social Services, Health and Hospital, the Department of Labor (disaster unemployment assistance), and crisis counselors," said Art Jones, State Coordinating Officer. "We want people to have the option of this personal assistance."
The Centers will be located in the following parishes:

Hours of operations: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday -Saturday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday until further notice.
Before coming to a Disaster Recovery Center, applicants are encouraged to apply by using the FEMA toll-free registration number: 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). For people who are speech or hearing-impaired, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. Recovery specialists take applications 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
