Applicant Briefings Coming To Hood River And Deschutes Counties

SALEM, Ore. -- To help public agencies apply for federal disaster recovery assistance for damage suffered during the late December/early January severe winter storms, applicant briefings are being scheduled by Oregon Emergency Management (OEM) and coordinated with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The briefings will cover eligibility, how the process works and how the financial payments are made. If there are questions prior to or following the briefings, potential applicants are encouraged to call 1-877-365-1016 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- The Hood River briefing will be held on Tuesday, March 2nd at 11 a.m. at the Best Western Hood River Inn, 1108 E. Marina Way in Hood River, Oregon.
- The Deschutes County briefing will be held on Wednesday, March 3rd at 1 p.m. in the Redmond Fire Department Training Room at 341 NW Dogwood Ave. in Redmond, Oregon.
Potential eligible applicants are not required to attend applicant briefings in order to be eligible for the Public Assistance Program. They just need to fill out a ‘Request for Public Assistance’ at http://www.fema.gov/rrr/pa/appfrm2.shtm#request. Applicants from any of the twenty-six declared counties may attend the scheduled briefings.
There is no assistance available for individuals or businesses as a result of this disaster. Privately owned businesses and/or homeowners should NOT attend.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
