FEMA Schedules Applicant Briefings For Storm Damaged Public Agencies

SALEM, Ore. -- To help public agencies apply for federal disaster recovery assistance for damage suffered during the late December/early January winter storm, a series of briefings is being scheduled by Oregon Emergency Management (OEM) and The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Briefings will cover cost eligibility, how the process works and how the financial payments are made.
The first briefing will be held on Wednesday, February 25 in Hearing Room A of the State Capitol Building at 2:00 p.m. This briefing will be video taped to be shown on OPB the following week on March 2 and March 4 at 1:00 a.m. You can also watch the briefing live over the Internet by following this link: www.pctv.state.or.us/rooms.html
The taped briefing will be one hour. During that time, no questions from participants will be taken. Once the formal briefing is over and the taping stopped, there will be a question and answer time for participants.
Applicants from the twenty-six declared counties can attend any of the scheduled briefings, which will be announced soon. There is no assistance available for individuals or businesses as a result of this disaster.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
