San Juan, P.R. -- The Commonwealth/Federal Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Guánica has been relocated. The DCR will relocate its disaster assistance services to the following address:
Ensenada Sports Club (Basketball Court)
(Next to Panaderia Rivera)
Road #3116, Km. 1.7, Lajas Street
Representatives from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Small Business Administration, and other key disaster recovery agencies staff the center. The center will continue operating Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Any individual, family, or business owner who suffered damage due to the November 10-23, 2003 rains, floods and landslides can visit the recovery center for information on disaster assistance programs, get information about mitigation techniques and to inquire about their disaster application status.
Residents affected by the disaster can register for disaster assistance by calling FEMA’s toll-free number,
1-800-621-3362, Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., (TTY: 1-800-462-7585, for hearing or speech impaired individuals). Wednesday, February 4, 2004 is the last day to register for individual and family federal disaster aid programs.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
